Week Nine: Assignment Three

Summarize your thoughts about this program on your blog. Well I'd say overwhelmingly this program was successful. I learned more than I knew coming into the program and found some neat sites and tools along the way that I'll be using more in the future. Probably my favorite activities was playing on You-Tube and with the Image generators. I also like that the program exposed me to technology I hadn't had much opportunity to utilize before. The biggest unexpected outcome for me was learning about RSS feeds and moving towards utilizing them myself.

As to how to do things differently...well I was disappointed with the overall layout of Blogger personally. It seems that the community building that Maryland Libraries was going for would have been better served by Livejournal than Blogger. Blogger had better tools overall than any other service I had used. I found the lack of an ability to search out like minded blogs a needless frustration. I'd also like to suggest better instructions for staff on what is expected of them for their assignments.

I'd do another discovery program like this in the future - it was fun. This was a fun way to learn about how the web continues to evolve.

hey d, congratulations on finishing the 23 things!

(...and, as someone who has had to sift through and review countless staff blogs, thanks for labeling your posts according to assignment. before your blog, i considered ripping my hair out, but then remembered i don't have any.)

i know that you have a lot of tech experience, but i'm glad you saw this program through even if much was review. i'm also glad you found some things, like RSS feeds, that you might be able to put to practical use. (as for your comment about turning RSS feeds on on the intranet, DO IT. i think that would be great especially for the center column of news bits.)

congratulations again on completing the 23 things!!!
